According to a study by ecologists, after the commissioning of two modern sewage treatment plants in Varna and Burgas, the quality of sea water in these regions has improved significantly. Now sea resort in Northern regions of the country cleaner than in the South.
The increase in the number of tourists visiting the Bulgarian resorts, inevitably leads to increased emissions of wastewater into the sea in coastal areas. To preserve marine biodiversity and, most importantly, to prevent the outflow of tourists from all the complaints about the water quality, measures for the construction of new and modernization of old treatment plants. For this purpose government invested heavily, including on the programme “environment 2007-2013”, launched by the Ministry of environment and water resources. The size of the investment in sewage treatment infrastructure this year alone has reached 150 million euros.
According to local news portal Newsbg, already commissioned two new wastewater treatment plants in Varna and Sunny beach, which is equipped with the latest technology and purify waste water in accordance with European environmental regulations. According to the examination of wastewater, regularly conducted by the environmental Inspectorate, the water quality in the regions, where the use of new treatment facilities, has improved markedly.
