For whom are the Bulgarian borders open now?

At the end of November 2020, the Bulgarian Ministry of Health introduced a temporary ban on entry into the republic (by road, air, railway, sea) until January 31, 2021.

Nevertheless, point 2 of the resolution lists the categories of persons for whom the Bulgarian borders are open.

Who is not subject to the ban?

The borders of Bulgaria are open to:

  • Bulgarian citizens;
  • citizens of the EU, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Schengen countries (including San Marino, Andorra, Monaco, Vatican) and their family members (even persons actually living with them in cohabitation);
  • citizens of Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, UAE, Ukraine, North Macedonia, Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, Moldova, Israel, Kuwait, Belarus, Turkey;
  • persons with permanent residence status and their family members; holders of the Bulgarian long-term visa D;
  • persons with the status of a residence permit in a member state of the EU, Great Britain, Northern Ireland or in a country of the Schengen zone and their membersundefined families;
  • medical and social workers, if the purpose of the trip is related to their profession;
  • employees supplying medicines, medical equipment (including installation and maintenance), etc.

      Do I need a COVID-19 test when entering Bulgaria?

      All persons who are allowed to enter Bulgaria in accordance with paragraph 2 and who come from the European Union, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Schengen countries (including San Marino, Andorra, Monaco, Vatican) may not present a negative test for COVID-19, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, UAE, Serbia, Belarus.

      The rest are required to provide a negative test, the result of which is written in Latin.

      Are the borders of Bulgaria open to Russians until the end of January 2021?

      Borders undefined Bulgaria is open only to Russians with permanent residence or residence permit status, as well as to their family members (minor children and spouses). Bulgaria is also open to Russians with D.

      When the borders of Bulgaria are opened for other categories of Russians and citizens of the CIS, it will depend on the epidemiological situation.
