According to the Minister of tourism of Bulgaria Nikolina Angelkova, total revenues for the Bulgarian tourism sector during the past tourist season was about 1.5 billion euros. Although this amount is significantly greater than that expected by the most pessimistic scenario, but still less than in the previous year by 10-20%.
The total number of tourists who visited Bulgaria in 2015 fell by 7.9%, compared with last year's figures. The number of Russians decreased by 25%, Ukrainians – by 19%. Unpleasant surprise was a decrease in the attractiveness of Bulgaria of Romanian citizens (32 percent), the Czech Republic, Austria and France (reduced to 15%). This year Bulgaria has missed and the Germans – traditional leaders among this direction, the number of which dropped by almost 2%.
Now the government's attention is focused on the preparation for the 2016 season. Efforts are being made for advertising Bulgarian directions in international markets, introducing new projects in the field of tourism, made significant investments in improving infrastructure, which will contribute to enhance the attractiveness of Bulgaria.
