The municipality of the resort town of Simitli has made a far-sighted promotional move, deciding to attract a new record number of tourists by creating the most favourable conditions for extreme sports in the region. A project has already been prepared to establish the Simitli extreme sports centre at a cost of 4 500 000 euros, with implementation scheduled for 2014 to 2020.
The project includes facilities for rock climbing, rafting, mountain biking and other activities designed to give active holidaymakers an adrenaline rush. In addition, its authors intend to use European resources to create a world rafting centre in Simitli, with the support of more than 88% of the region's residents surveyed.
