Russia’s currency crisis prompted many Russians who owned property in Bulgaria to start actively selling it. But who is buying? Let us look at who sold homes in Bulgaria that summer and who bought them.
Russian citizens were the clear leaders in sales of Bulgarian apartments and homes during those three summer months, accounting for 52%. They were followed by the British at 41%, who had also actively sold their seaside apartments in the previous year. Ukrainian citizens accounted for just 7%.
Who is buying? And who, apart from Bulgarians themselves, will dominate Bulgaria’s property market in 2016?
Polish citizens lead with 33.5%, followed by Ukrainians at 26% and Russians at 18.5%. Bulgarians also actively bought resort properties, accounting for 11%, which helped produce record local demand for the past 10 years. The remaining 11% were British, German and other buyers.
As these figures show, Bulgaria’s property market continues to attract foreign interest, both in buying homes and in selling them.
