A new bill on the development and protection of the Black Sea coast of the Republic of Bulgaria has effectively blocked construction near the shoreline, causing concern among representatives of the building sector. Hundreds of projects are currently frozen until the nature of the land beneath the new buildings is clarified.
Notably, under the new procedure for obtaining building permits near the coast, a certificate must first be obtained from the environmental inspectorate confirming that the plot is not part of the sand dunes. However, obtaining this certificate in the areas of the well-known resorts of Burgas, Varna or Dobrich is impossible because the documentation mapping coastal dunes is not ready.
