At a meeting with members of Bulgaria’s National Assembly on 13 January 2016, the Bulgarian prime minister stated that the country’s lawyers were continuing to work actively on finding ways to simplify visa requirements for Russian citizens.
The prime minister expects the planned easing of visa requirements, lower visa prices and better tourism services, together with a friendly policy towards Russia, to help bring Russian tourists back to Bulgaria. In 2015, the number of tourists from Russia and Ukraine fell by 25%, while the number of property transactions concluded by Russian citizens also declined.
Another meeting between Oleg Safonov of Rostourism and representatives of Bulgaria’s tourism authorities is scheduled for late January in Sofia. They will discuss the development of tourism between the two countries.
