According to the head of Bulgaria’s tourism ministry, Nikolina Angelkova, the number of charter flights scheduled to Bulgaria’s coastal regions will increase by 30% in 2016.
The largest increases will be from Russia, France and Germany. Russian airlines will increase the number of charter flights to Bulgaria by 86% during the current holiday season. The number of flights from France and Germany will rise by 60% and 49%, respectively.
Ms Angelkova noted that the bright prospects for the coming holiday season were largely due to the ministry’s intensive work throughout 2015. According to the minister, this included cooperation with local and foreign tour operators, journalists and other interested parties.
Nikolina Angelkova hopes that the tourism sector will achieve impressive results in summer 2016. However, she advises local tour operators to focus on the quality of their services and the professionalism of staff working in the sector. In her view, these are weak points in Bulgarian tourism.
The minister assured the public that, against the backdrop of the growing terrorist threat in Europe, the government had introduced heightened security measures for all Bulgarian and foreign citizens.
