According to Bulgaria’s statistical institute, construction of 1,222 buildings for various purposes began in Bulgaria during the summer. Residential buildings accounted for 60.6% of the total and contained more than 3,000 apartments.
The number of new buildings under construction rose by 12.5% compared with the previous quarter of 2015 and by 23.5% compared with the same period in 2014. The number of apartments in new complexes increased by 75.3% year on year and by 23.5% compared with the preceding quarter.
Plovdiv and its region led in construction starts with 172 buildings. The Bulgarian capital was second with 144 residential, administrative and other buildings, followed by the Varna region with 134 new buildings for various purposes.
This year’s increase in new construction, together with more building permits issued and modestly rising housing prices, indicates a recovery in Bulgaria’s property market.
