Speaking at a seminar on tourism development, Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova said more than 6 million foreign holidaymakers visited Bulgaria in summer 2016. These are preliminary figures excluding domestic tourists.
According to Angelkova, both visitor numbers and tourism revenue increased. In the first 7 months of the year, the sector's total turnover reached 1.7 billion euros, 15% above the previous year's level. The minister said these results should be maintained in subsequent years through training qualified staff and increasing investment in facilities.
Staff shortages are also to be addressed by attracting foreign specialists into tourism using simplified registration procedures. Simplified registration is available under the government decree implementing the Labour Migration and Labour Mobility Act.
